Little Bokeelia Island aka paradise.
This property is currently listed as an immediate sale through April 30 which means that an interest buyer could basically name their own price. The owners are serious about considering all offers and don’t even have a minimum figure requested. The property was previously on the market in 2012 for a mere $29.5 million but is now assessed at $24.5 million.
The main property on the 100+ acre island is a luxurious Spanish-style villa from the 1920s. It was built by Charles Burgess, a pioneer in electrochemical engineering who manufactured dry cell batteries.
According to a spokesperson for Michael Saunders & Company, the company listing the island, Thomas Edison was a close personal friend of Burgess. He visited Little Bokeelia often, even planting two trees on the property that still provide shade today. The spokesperson also said that Ponce de Leon visited the island many years ago, in addition to a few stops from pirates.
Getting to the island is a task in itself. Visitors can fly
into Fort Myers, Sarasota and Punta Gorda airports, drive about 45 minutes to
the marina and then ride to the island via a 10-15 minute boat ride.
With a view like this it’s well worth it.
