This Is What Luxury Means in 2016

Luxury Portfolio International recently released a white paper on “The New Rules of Luxury Living,” intended to give its member firms a better grasp on what luxury means to the affluent demographic today.

Several important points are explored in detail, centered around the understanding that the desire to possess luxurious things remains important to the affluent even in the post-recession economy. The paper looks to the past to understand how historically the leader-class of the past would describe luxury as a birthright, the possession of which was proof of their rank. Today, luxury consumers describe their access to luxury in a very different way. Today, luxury is usually the result of a lifetime of hard work and strong drive and no longer something dividing the affluent from others. It is a signal to one’s self of being victorious over the challenges of life.

New research and data gathered helped Luxury Portfolio gain insight into luxury consumers’ wants and desires as it relates to their buying habits and consumption of luxury goods and real estate. Much information is readily available to consumers and a good sales person should be equipped with the knowledge and a deeper understanding of the consumer to offer a better quality of service – whether it involves a home or another luxury product.

Furthermore, the research concludes that success, and ultimately affluence, begins with being educated, embracing hard work, seizing opportunity and pursuing passions first and financial gain second. As a result of the Great Recession today’s affluent have learned to be financially responsible, resourceful shopper who work hard to secure their family’s quality of life.

Own A Piece of History: Inside Michelangelo's 16th Century Villa

Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni’s exquisite Italian home on the rolling hills of Tuscany is now for sale.

In 1549, at the age of 72, thirty years after completing his infamous Sistine Chapel work, Michelangelo bought this Tuscan villa  – halfway between Florence and Siena. The home stayed in the Buonarroti family for over 300 years.

Located on over six acres atop rolling hills, the 12,915 square feet of living space are contained within three multi-story buildings, including an ancient tower dating back to the 11th century. The original architecture is featured throughout with large stone fireplaces and beamed and barrel ceilings. The home consists of eight bedrooms and seven full baths which all pay homage to the period while including modern conveniences blended into the background.

The kitchen features the rustic romantic style of the early centuries with high-end appliances. Grounds are park-like in style with lawns and mature plantings with a lemon orchard, olive grove and Chianti vineyards as well as the original oil mill.

This piece of history has been preserved and restored by the current owner and is now for sale at a modest $8,162,821. The original deed held by Michelangelo – in which he is described as “a dear sculptor and Florentine citizen,” will be passed on the new owner.

Truly a breathtaking property - iconic in its own right for its 16th century architecture and made more so for its personal connection to one of the greatest artists in history.

Inside Selena Gomez's Stunning Calabasas Mansion

Selena Gomez purchased this property in 2014 for $3.69 million. The home is located in the exclusive Mureau Estates gated community. It sits on three rolling acres including a guest house with an additional bedroom and bathroom. The main house includes five bedrooms and six bathrooms bringing the grand total to 7,768 square feet. Gomez is moving due to issues with stalkers - only having owned the home for 1 year.

The exterior of the main home is reminiscent of many sprawling homes in Texas - a combination of neutral stone and stucco. The foyer has a neutral tile floor, which leads to the home’s walk-in wine cellar and a view of the grand staircase.
A dining room down the hall sports rich jewel tones that accentuate the soaring ceilings and a two-story wall of windows. Past the dining room and formal living room is the downstairs informal living area, which has an open concept layout, and a kitchen that boasts double ovens, double dishwashers, a full bar, an oversized island and an elegant breakfast nook. The room is flooded with natural light thanks to windows on every wall.
On the other side of the main floor is the master suite, painted in an amethyst hue and offering enough space for a king-sized bed, a sitting area and plenty of room at the vanity.
Off the bedroom is the luxurious neutral-toned bathroom, featuring a garden tub that sits near the double-sided fireplace, double vanities, an enclosed shower, and a master closet that is larger than life.
The upstairs offers a media center and three bedrooms, one of which Gomez has used as an office.
In true California spirit, the living space continues outdoors, with a courtyard perfect for outdoor dining, a swimming pool, spa, and an outdoor kitchen complete with a brick pizza oven.
