Stepping inside a multimillion dollar home, you're expecting to step foot into a living room, a formal room, or anything but the kitchen. But as a new trend rises, homeowners are opting for larger kitchen spaces - ones that sometimes even take over the formal, living, and dining rooms. "The hierarchy of the home is changing," says Mick De Giulio, a Chicago-based designer, "People's lives today are more kitchen-centric than ever before." Why so smitten on big kitchens, you ask? A couple reasons come into play:
More people are drifting toward a more casual lifestyle, where families either all take part in preparing meals or at least enjoy being in the same room as the person preparing the meal. With a larger kitchen, it's easier for a family or guests to pass time together while food is being prepared.
Another reason for having such grand scale kitchens is to show off all the latest appliances. With all the new technology that has surfaced within the past few years, who wouldn't want to have a huge state-of-the-art kitchen where all these appliances can be put on display?
Whatever your reason for wanting a bigger kitchen, you're probably imagining yourself either preparing food or relaxing with family or guests in one of these dream kitchens; and since so many homeowners are opting for these bigger kitchens, you're not alone.
